Progress continues with KED #001 and the E46 M3 it will be calling home.

The rear suspension is finally back together after a few months apart, with everything freshly coated in epoxy mastic for protection. Powerflex polybushes and adjustable control arms were also fitted along with new Meyle wheel bearings and upper outer control arm balljoints. A second hand fuel tank and various new fasteners also made their way into the build-up process.

We also took the time to visit the guys at Wavetrac Europe, which proved to me incredibly insightful. A differential was picked up for the project and will be built up in the next few weeks. Wavetrac differentials can be purchased through Hack Engineering – if you require an application not listed simply contact us.

The block has returned from our trusted machine shop – the finish is excellent as expected!

Setting ring gaps –

The crank, which has been re-ground 0.25mm on the big ends and mains and then balanced (as a complete assembly with damper, flywheel and clutch cover). This took the crank from 540% of the tolerance to just 10% (from 540gmm to just 12gmm).

Crank spinning beautifully, with the main studs torqued down using ARP assembly lube.

Rod bolts all stretched to the required 5-5.5 thou limit.

Chain guides and head studs on. Just waiting on the arrival of the new KED pre-stretched timing chain and oil pump chain.

Finally, the head is back together having been resurfaced, the valves cleaned and lapped and then KED DLC Rockers fitted with new rocker shafts.
